Excellent toning of the muscles – Muscles that have become flaccid, weak or sloth are stimulated repeatedly to shed excess flab and flaccidity.

Benefits of Yoga in RECOVERY or stroke patient : At the physical level, yoga and its cleansing practices have proven to be extremely effective for:

Increasing Flexibility – yoga has positions that act upon the various joints and muscles of the body to increase flexibility.

Increasing lubrication of the joints, ligaments and tendons – likewise, the well-researched yoga positions exercise the different tendons and ligaments of the body.

Surprisingly it has been found that the body which may have been quite rigid starts experiencing a remarkable flexibility in even those parts which have not been consciously work upon. It is here that the remarkable research behind yoga positions proves its mettle. Seemingly unrelated “non strenuous” yoga positions act upon certain parts of the body in an interrelated manner. When done together, they work in harmony to create a situation where flexibility is attained relatively easily.

Massaging of ALL Organs of the Body – Yoga is perhaps the only form of activity which massages all the internal glands and organs of the body in a thorough manner, including those – such as the prostate - that hardly get externally stimulated during our entire lifetime. Yoga acts in a wholesome manner on the various body parts. This stimulation and massage of the organs in turn benefits us by keeping away disease and providing a forewarning at the first possible instance of a likely onset of disease or disorder.
Complete Detoxification – By gently stretching muscles and joints as well as massaging the various organs, yoga ensures the optimum blood supply to various parts of the body. This helps in the flushing out of toxins from every nook and corner as well as providing nourishment up to the last point. This leads to benefits such as delayed aging, energy and a remarkable zest for life.

My expirence with stroke.

Recovery after Stroke :
Within 24 hours, IF POSSIBLE patient should be asked to try to get up and with assistance. It will be a very difficult task but the aim is to train the brain
as soon as possible. This should be done when patient is in I.C.U. itself.
In physiotherapy department, patient is given PASSIVE exercises, since he/she cannot move the limb on their own. All those movements which normal hand can do like flexion , extension , rotation is done passively. These exercises are carried daily for almost 6 months till one could do them with some resistance.
Step of Treatment
1. Give heat to effected part to increase blood flow.
2. No massages should be done.
3. Passive exercises are done in fingers of the effected side. Flexion and extension twice a day.
4. Deep Breathing should be done daily for 5 minutes.
5. Speech therapy daily. Try to read out loudly, a paragraph. It will be embrassing and very difficult to pronounce the word because of paralysis of the tongue of the effected side. But do NOT give up and read LOUDLY for at least one hour daily. We have to teach the forgotten words to our brain.
6. New pathways of Neurons will develop by constant learning.
7. Do not feel embarrassed ,you may not be able to say simple words like ‘watch’. Carry on your efforts, it will pay.
8. Try to walk with someone’s help daily, you must though you want to sham it.
9. In three months time you will be able to do your daily activities like brushing ,bathing , changing cloths and eating food yourself—which is a big thing for stroke patient.
10. Gradually start ACTIVE exercises like lifting weight, doing pulley exercises and cycling which a good exercise.
11. Physiotherapist teach some exercises depending on your improvements.
12. You MUST write with effected hand, though it is very difficult and may be disheartening, as you cannot hold the pen and read what you have written. Try to write at least two or three pages using different fingers with the thumb.
13. Develop some hobbies like gardening, reading books.
14. You must pray and read good books. They keep morale up and help in faster recovery.
15. Though recovery is very slow but COMPLETE recovery is possible.
16. Once with exercises big muscles develop, the finger muscles will gain strength by doing different jobs like cutting vegetables, sewing buttons .
17. Gradually your speech, motor and sensory movements come back.
18. Your near and dear ones play a big role in your recovery.
19. You thank GOD without whose guidance and help it was not possible.
20. The emphasis of early and timely treatment is very important.
